Riot in Copenhagen
Sunday, 04 March 2007 13:26

What happened to our world? What happened to Denmark? When I turn on the TV I see reports from around in the city. 643 people have been arrested. 15 cars have been set on fire throughout the city. The pictures on the television resemble a big battlefield - similar to these end-of-world movies of the late 80's! The police is being attacked by a rioting crowd with stones, sticks and Molotov cocktails. Fire all over!

I have been sick for the last two days, and haven't been out lately. The whole thing sounds too unreal. The Danish news stations broadcast live from the places, were the demonstrations and riots happen. The city has within three days turned into a war zone. And why? Because a youth club called "Ungdomshuset" was closed? Because the righteous owners of the building wanted to sell the building? It has come out of control! And people from all over in Europe come and contribute to the riot? Why? It does not help the club finding a new place! Just severe destruction!

What happened to our society, that people get so angry and upset? What makes them want to destroy streets and endanger random citizens around in the town?! It can not have anything to do with helping the club! It certainly puts only a bad light on it. Is the closing of the club just being used as a reason to do some vandalism? To let the anger out? Anger about what exactly? The TV stations report live! Non-stop. It's one big show. Like the MTV Music awards, or the Olympic games. It's on TV while I hear the sirens outside, and while I see the helicopters cruising on the sky. I must admit! There is some entertainment factor! That's grotesque! Something really has become out of bounds! Did we loose the sens for reality?

Make those people stop! Make them talk! Make them have acceptance, and make them have respect for each other! Throwing stones does not help anybody!
