Sulawesi - Indonesia

After arriving at the Manado airport, coming from Bali, we met a local guy who was waiting to pick up some guys from Finland. He was working at a dive resort on Bunaken island, in the middle of a national park. After talking about that place for a while, he offered us a ride on his boat to that island, where we could check out some rooms to stay. So far it sounded very nice and interesting. And since we didn't have any other plans yet, we just agreed and gave it a try.

First we moved into our own bungalow, at the very top of the island. Seaview, little veranda, a proper toilet and shower, a nice bed... All you could whish! It was really nice (see pictures)! And a couple of foot steps next to it there was the little restaurant, where we could just go and serve ourselves from the fridge. This was a cosy place, where we wanted to stay for a while.

The Bunaken island is not very big, so you can easly walk around it in a half day. And after some explorations we found out that on this island there is not much else to do than diving! But that was very much ok for us, since we in deed wanted to use our newly obtained diving licenses!

Down at the dive center we got ourselves equipped and joined for a couple of dives. And so far I can tell, there weren't the biggest fishes (big stuff, as our dive master Martin used to say), but the diversity of different animals was overwhelming! They truely have a rich and intact wildlife down there! And combined with the crystal clear water, we had some unforgettable dives.

Also the people in at the dive center were very kind and always in a good humor. We had a very good time and ejoyed the time at the Living Colours dive resort.

After all I am quite sure that I would want to go back there, if it should once happen to be that I travel again in Indonesia. But then as well, Indonesia has so many different things to offer than just diving, that I would like to compine the visit with some trecking through the highlands, or something alike...

Anyway, after a very nice week on Bunaken island, the time - as it happens to be, if you are on holiday - slowly run out, and we had to think about getting back in direction of Thailand. So in a first step we were sailing back to Manado, and took a flight to Singapore.
