Digital Photography

Capturing moments of life to remember, creating illusions, or documenting moments for proof and amusement. Possessing a good picture is a great thing. But the process of creating a good picture is the thing that cought me. Its an ongoing challenge with myself, very subjective - a constant stuggle to improve.

The technology around photography has evolved in giant leaps for the last couple of years. Digital cameras have become reliable, and image processing has become affordable. There is no more need for expensive darkrooms, and virtually anybody can nowadays have a photo studio in his own home.

I enjoyed taking pictures with my analogue cameras (Lomo and Nikon F60) for many years. But exactly the fusion of the creative, artistic demands of traditional photography and the highly technical aspects of capturing and processing digital images is what caught my attention.

I will probably never be working as a professional photographer (I am a too devoted software developer for that), but I am seeking for how far you can get as an amateur photographer.

There are the some corner stones, which I see myself working on, and which indefinitely influence my work:
  1. taste and preference
  2. sense/create photo moments
  3. technical knowledge
  4. process
  5. equipment
  6. ability to combine the above
I am not so good at releasing pictures, as it so often happens, that when I get to the point of a possible release, a new and more interesting opportunity for taking pictures shows up, which is to be pursued. And unless there is a reason to publish a picture, my work tends stacks up on some disk in my growing photo archive. Whom am I taking the pictures for? It's mostly for myself. Or?

Nevertheless I sometimes upload images to a Danish website to share views of life, or collect public criticism. You might have a look here: FotoKritik.dk.

And as one never knows how a hobby develops into something more serious, I have together with a fellow photographer created a web space, where we in some future more actively will exhibit our work. You might want to have a look at: Photomaniac.dk.
