The holiday in Davos (Switzerland) is now over, and I am now back in Copenhagen at work. Things have become a little more difficult here because of my broken right arm.
I just now start to realize how much it is to appreciate to have two arms. Have you ever tried to tie your shoes with only one hand? Or eat a steak? Or spaghetti with tomato sauce? Believe me: Your white shirt will not be white anymore! :-)The weather was excellent, and the snow contitions were just a dream! And having been away from mountain and snow for too long time, I have tried to catch up with all I have been missing in the last two years. That was great fun for exactly two days. After the third day the slopes were only visible through the window of the hospital! :crazy Diagnosis: Double fracture on the elbow and a damaged triceps. It all happened very fast. Not even off-piste, not even in a spectacular crash! No, it just happened when speeding down the frozen slope, when I lost contact to the ground. The lesson to learn: Whenever you fall, do not try to catch yourself with your arms. And if you do, try to avoid having your arms straight! Otherwise your elbow might look like on the x-ray picture next to here. Note the two small fractures right in the places where the muscles are attached to the bone. Until these fractures are healed (all in all for about 10 weeks), I will not be able to bend my arm. Luckily I am already half way trhough, so that I soon can start training up my arm again. And so I will be ready again for snowboarding in 2006. ;) |
